What we do.

Scarf Akin Procedure

The Scarf Akin procedure is a surgical technique used to correct bunions and realign the bones in the foot. It involves two main components: the Scarf osteotomy and the Akin osteotomy. The Scarf Akin procedure is performed under general anaesthesia and takes around one hour. It is done as a day case procedure, which means you can go home on the same day.

Bunions

Bunion Surgery

A bunion is a bony bump that forms on the joint at the base of the big toe. It occurs when the big toe pushes too far across against the adjacent toe, causing the joint to become misaligned and protrude. Bunions can be painful and may affect your ability to walk or wear certain types of footwear. Bunion surgery is typically recommended when non-surgical treatments, such as wearing appropriate footwear, using orthotic devices, or taking pain medications, have failed to relieve your symptoms.

1st MTPJ fusion surgery

1st MTPJ Fusion surgery is a procedure performed to treat severe arthritis or joint damage in the big toe. The 1st MTPJ is the joint where the metatarsal bone of the foot connects to the phalanx bone of the big toe, where the big toe moves up and down. Fusion surgery involves permanently joining these bones to eliminate the painful movement caused by arthritis or deformities.

Plantar Fasciitis

Plantar Fasciitis

Plantar fasciitis is a common condition that causes pain and inflammation in the heel and sole of the foot. It occurs when the plantar fascia, a thick band of tissue that supports the arch of the foot, becomes strained or irritated. In most people, this condition is part of a normal aging process resulting from degeneration within the plantar fascia. It can be caused or worsened by overuse such as doing lots of running or long days standing and walking, improper footwear, excessive weight, or certain foot conditions.

Non-Insertional Achilles Tendonitis

Non-insertional Achilles tendonitis is a common condition that affects the Achilles tendon, a strong band of tissue that connects your calf muscles to your heel bone. Unlike insertional Achilles tendonitis, which primarily affects the point where the tendon attaches to your heel bone, non-insertional Achilles tendonitis affects the middle portion of the tendon. This condition can cause pain, swelling, and discomfort in the back of your leg, just above your heel.

Insertional Achilles tendonitis is a condition that affects the Achilles tendon, a strong band of tissue that connects your calf muscles to your heel bone. Unlike non-insertional Achilles tendonitis, which affects the middle portion of the tendon, insertional Achilles tendonitis primarily affects the point where the tendon attaches to your heel bone (calcaneus). This condition can cause pain, swelling, and discomfort in the back of your heel.

Ankle Fusion Surgery

Ankle fusion surgery, also known as ankle arthrodesis, is a surgical procedure performed to treat severe ankle arthritis or significant ankle deformities that cause chronic pain and limited mobility. The surgery involves fusing the bones of the ankle joint together, which eliminates the joint space and creates a solid bone union.

Ankle Ligament Reconstruction

Chronic ankle instability is a condition characterised by repeated ankle sprains, instability, and persistent discomfort in the ankle joint. This commonly results from a history of one or more ankle “sprain” injuries, causing ligament tears or stretches, which can weaken the ankle's stability.

Ankle Arthroscopy

Ankle arthroscopy is a minimally invasive (key hole) surgical procedure that allows your surgeon to examine and treat problems within your ankle joint using a specialised instrument called an arthroscope. The arthroscope is a thin, flexible tube with a camera attached to the end, which transmits images to a monitor, enabling your surgeon to see inside your ankle joint without making large incisions.
